WHAT IS LATISSE™?
LATISSE™ is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product indicated in Canada to grow natural eyelashes longer, thicker and darker.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE YOU START SEEING RESULTS WITH LATISSE™?
LATISSE™ users typically start to see longer lashes in about eight weeks, with full growth at 16 weeks. LATISSE™ is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product indicated in Canada to grow natural eyelashes longer, darker and thicker.
HOW IS LATISSE™ APPLIED?
LATISSE™ is applied once-daily to the base of the upper eyelid margin with a single-use-per-eye disposable applicator brush.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS WITH LATISSE™ LAST?
Results with LATISSE™ can be seen in as little as eight weeks, with full growth at 16 weeks.1 To maintain results, continued use of LATISSE™ is needed. Once treatment is discontinued, over a period of several weeks to months (average eyelash hair cycle), eyelash prominence will return to pre-treatment levels.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU STOP USING LATISSE™?
Once treatment is discontinued, over a period of several weeks to months (average eyelash hair cycle), eyelash prominence will return to pre-treatment levels. Therefore to maintain results, continued treatment with LATISSE™ is necessary.
LATISSE™ was shown to grow natural eyelashes longer, thicker and darker in as little as eight weeks, with full growth in 16 weeks.
DOES LATISSE™ WORK ON EYEBROWS OR OTHER AREAS?
Bimatoprost, the active ingredient found in LATISSE™ is only indicated to grow natural eyelashes.1 It has not been studied for use on other areas of the body. LATISSE™ therefore is not recommended for use on other areas of the body.
HOW DO YOU GET LATISSE™?
LATISSE™ can only be purchased at a qualified medical aesthetic clinic after proper instruction for the application of LATISSE™ has first been given to the client.
I’VE HEARD THAT LATISSE™ CAN CAUSE IRIS PIGMENTATION. IS THIS TRUE?
Although not reported in clinical studies, LATISSE™ may cause increased brown iris pigmentation, which could be permanent. Therefore consumers/patients should be cautioned against the potential for iris pigmentation when using LATISSE™.
WHAT ARE OTHER POSSIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS WITH LATISSE™?
In the clinical trial for LATISSE™, treatment with the product was well tolerated. In one multi-centre, double-masked, randomized, vehicle-controlled, parallel study of four months duration, most adverse events detected were ocular, mild to moderate, and not serious.
The most frequently reported adverse events with the use of LATISSE™ were eye pruritus (itchy eyes), conjunctival hyperaemia (eye redness), skin hyperpigmentation, ocular irritation, dry eye symptoms, and erythema (redness) of the eyelid. Each of these events occurred in fewer than 4 per cent of patients.
LATISSE™ may cause darkening of the eyelid skin, which may be reversible. Although not reported in clinical studies, LATISSE™ may cause increased brown iris pigmentation, which could be permanent. In LUMIGAN® studies, iris pigmentation change was a reported effect in 1.5 per cent of patients receiving once-daily dosing.
I’VE HEARD THE HYPERPIGMENTATION COULD ALMOST PRODUCE AN EYELINER EFFECT?
In some cases, patients using LATISSE™ may experience darkening along the upper eyelid where the product is applied, which could give the appearance of eyeliner. This pigmentation may be reversible upon discontinuation of the product.
IF YOU HAVE HAD LASER SURGERY, CONTACT LENSES OR SENSITIVE EYES, CAN YOU STILL USE LATISSE™?
LATISSE™ contains BAK (benzalkonium chloride), which may be absorbed by soft contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed prior to use of LATISSE™ and may be reinserted 15 minutes following its application. For all other eye sensitivities and ailments, individuals should speak with an aesthetic specialty doctor to determine if LATISSE™ is right for them.
the increase in darkness occurs by the stimulation of pigment (melanin) formation in the hair follicles. The overall effect is increased length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes (prominence).1 LATISSE™ is not approved for use in children.
DO OTHER EYELASH ENHANCEMENT PRODUCTS NOT GROW YOUR LASHES TOO? WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
LATISSE™ is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product indicated in Canada to grow natural eyelashes longer, thicker and darker. Therefore, it cannot be compared to other products. Unlike LATISSE™, the safety and efficacy of alternative over-the-counter eyelash enhancement products has not been demonstrated in rigorous clinical studies.
DO INDIVIDUAL RESULTS VARY?
As each person’s natural eyelashes differ in length, thickness and darkness, individual results with LATISSE™ may vary. In a pivotal phase III, multi-centre, double-masked, placebo-controlled study, LATISSE™ users experienced statistically significant improvements in eyelash prominence, length, fullness and darkness at the end of the 16-week timeframe. The study also found that:
- 78 per cent of LATISSE™ patients experienced an increase in overall lash prominence (versus 18.4 per cent for placebo)
- LATISSE™ patients experienced a 25 per cent increase in eyelash length (versus 2 per cent for placebo)
- LATISSE™ patients experienced a 106 per cent increase in eyelash thickness / fullness (versus 12 per cent for placebo)
- LATISSE™ patients experienced an 18 per cent increase in eyelash darkness (versus 3 per cent for placebo)
